Rapport with the students

At the present time I feel as if my rapport with the students is coming along very well. I feel like I am getting to know the students on a very personal level. They are telling me all about their lives and letting me in on their funny stories and such. I like that they are getting to know me and that I am getting to know them.
When it comes to teaching it seems that they are able to know when I am serious about things and when its ok to be more laid back.
I have been implimenting the behavior strategies in our classroom which helps keep the students on task and learning with out constant reminders from myself or my host teacher. The students are able to mark their smiley or frowny face when needed for behavior and preperation issues. Also, the students are working on not calling out by using our "Hands Up Chart". They help me keep track of who calls out and who doesn't. Its working out very well so far.
Last week I think was a big week for me to get on a more personal level with the students. They had their behavior reward which was bowling at Suburban Lanes. I ened up being able to bowl, play, and dance with the students. It was really fun being able to just hang out with them and get to watch them have so much fun. This was definately a development in our relationships. Hopefully as time goes on I will continue to develop more bonds with the students in my classes.

  1. "it seems that they are able to know when I am serious about things and when its ok to be more laid back" What a great statement! I'm thrilled to hear you're learning the line and teaching the kids how and when to "cross" that personal line as well.
