My First Week in Grade 5

Before the students arrived to school on Monday I was feeling fairly anxious. For the past few semesters I have been working primarily with much younger children (kindergarten to second grade). I was worried that the students wouldn't be as excited to see me or learn from me. I was also wondering how the students would react to my style of teaching, if they would find me interesting, etc.
Once the students came on the first day I have felt such relief. The students are exactly like little kids, but in bigger bodies. They were all just as nervous and excited about school starting as I was. I haven't had too much of a chance to get to know them yet, but I am already starting to identify with them and take opportunities to connect with them individually. It seems like everyday there is more of a relaxed feeling coming over all of us and as time goes on and I start teaching myself I'm sure that feeling with come over me as well.
I have become very comfortable with my host teacher and the rest of fifth grade teaching team. We seem to have quite a similar teaching style and overall idea of classroom management. I'm very happy with my placement and am excited to start taking on more responsibilities in the classroom.
