Recently I sent out a letter to my student's parents asking them to take the time to do an interest inventory (that was attached to the letter) with their child. I told them that it was important for them to do this with their child so that I could create lessons that their child will enjoy and pair them with people that they like to work with. I also sent their technology conscent form home attached to this letter. I explained that this form needed to be filled out so that when I am observed and vidoe taped for my classroom assignments that their child can be shown. Also, for me to take pictures and reflect on my own teaching. I even spoke with the students about why it was important for them to bring these papers back and offered star cards to those who return them both.
I think that this reflects the Characterist of Novice Teacher #2, Effective communicator. An effective communicator is one who expresses and receives ideas, messages or information through appropriate spoken, written, and non-verbal forms. I made sure that the students and the parent were aware of the reasons I was doing things and making sure that the information was clear.

I think this reflects you being an effective communicator. It's important for parents to know that you are interested in their child specifically.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great way to involve parents in their child’s education. Giving students homework that involves interaction between child and parent will provide precious time that may not have happened without the assignment. These interest inventories are an excellent way to create lessons that address the learning styles and interests of your students.
